As history goes ...

The "little spot" where we are located is more than 70 years old. This wonderful little house was built in 1931 by James Bucklin as his law office. It is the oldest standing structure on Entrada Avenue. It has been home to many and now embraces "The Tea Trolley".

In December 2000 my husband John and I purchased a wonderful historical house on Entrada Ave. in Atascadero. While walking through it I knew immediately it was a very special place, not just a house!

As we were restoring it, I tried to imagine what type of business would lend itself to such a unique place.

Growing up in England, I remember my mother always wanted to operate a tea room, but being a single mum, she knew that she could only dream about such a thing.

The idea of a tea room kept coming back to me, so I knew it just had to be! To honor my mother, her name was Winifred, my main dining room is named "Mum's Room".

Did I knew anything about restaurant business? No!! But I did know I would serve only homemade soups and desserts and the freshest salads and sandwiches, which enables me to cater to any health issues or allergies my guests may have, along with spreading the word about the wonderful traditions associated with tea.

Our sandwiches and tea sandwiches are served with our own waldorf salad made by my friend, co-worker "and perfectionist" Taryn who cubes the apples so small you will never believe it!

Our scones are from an old English recipe and served with clotted cream, lemon curd and strawberry jam all from England. And YES, we even serve tea and crumpets!
Our Queen's Tea is a definite favorite with our guests, a selection of tea sandwiches, a homemade scone and a selection of "goodies" along an endless pot of tea, is served on a bone china tier, a delicious choice for that special occasion!

If you are looking for that special tea related gift, we carry an array of gifts, bone china and of course tea!

The Tea Trolley offers a place to be if you are alone or with friends. Many tell me they feel they leave the hustle and bustle of the world behind when they enter, some say when you walk in the door it's like going to see family.

I have visitors from across the country and around the world. My local guests travel from as far away as Santa Barbara and San Francisco. Many have said a visit to The Tea Trolley makes their central coast visit complete!

In the spring and summer, lunch is served on the garden patio, a delightful hidden spot away from the world.

We are open Thursdays and Fridays, from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

"Making friends one sip at a time."
